Wytchwood is a colorful adventure game where making spells and reagents is the name of the game. You play as an old witch who is suddenly woken up by an insidious black goat. Now, after learning of a pact you made with this goat before your long sleep, you must acquire twelve souls to bring to the goat in order to save a sleeping virgin.
Wytchwood is a truly remarkable experience and feels very different from any other indie game. This is mainly because you spend a lot of time crafting witch stuff to solve complex and nuanced quests. Wytchwood often feels like a puzzle adventure as you have to think about how to combine items to move forward. The following tips are designed to help you get started with this game.
7th Focus on one quest at a time
Wytchwood offers a plethora of lengthy quests. These quests are all about helping citizens in and around the surrounding fantasy-inspired zones. These quests will eventually lead you to find one of the twelve souls you need to repay the goat that lives in your home swamp.
Quests in Wytchwood are complex and can take a lot of time and patience to complete. Most of this comes from constantly traversing multiple zones, making different spells and reagents, and combining steps to complete just part of a quest. The best advice is to take your time to enjoy each quest.
6th Always collect materials
Every single spell or reagent in Wytchwood requires a multitude of materials and this game features a seemingly infinite amount of materials to add to your inventory. Due to quests that involve constantly crafting spells and reagents, stock up on whatever stuff you come across.
It will take a long time to replenish your inventory, so don’t worry about picking up the fifteenth mushroom or twentieth medicinal leaf. What makes collecting materials easier in Wytchwood is that they reappear quite often, usually when you leave an area and return to it later, even in the same game session.
5 Highlight an item to see where to find it
As you browse through the different steps of a spell or the materials required for a reagent to complete a quest, you may be wondering how to find all of these items in the first place. Fortunately, the game will help you figure out what region that particular item is in by simply highlighting it in the menu.
Yes, every single material or object can be tagged to find out where it is, be it in the swamp, in the forest, in the fields, in the cemetery and the like. Since many handmade items require a lot of steps and materials, you should familiarize yourself with where to find them.
4th Spells against reagents
Okay, what exactly are the differences between making a spell and making a reagent? To put it simply, spells only require an ingredient or two, while reagents usually take multiple steps and properties to make. However, you will need both to advance in the game.
You acquire new spells and reagents in your extensive grimoire by learning them organically from the game world. Every time you learn about a new one it is automatically added to your Grimoire and you can easily start making.
3 Don’t forget your witchcraft
One of the witch powers that you learn about very early in the game is your witch eye. This otherworldly sense allows you to freeze time, highlight an item in order, learn about it, and then add that information to your grimoire, at least in the case of spells and reagents.
Your witch’s eye is best used when you enter a new area and are unsure of exactly what materials, plants, or living things are hanging around. If you are ever stuck during a quest, you may need to use your witch’s eye on a particular creature or material for a spell or reagent to craft.
2 Your convenient map screen
Wytchwood offers a super practical map screen that can be called up at any time with the push of a button. While you don’t get a minimap, the general map screen is more than helpful when it comes to finding your next quest location or a zone exit.
Keep in mind that your map will be blacked out until you actually enter a new area. You can zoom in and out of the map screen to find quest icons, signposts, and general points of interest.
1 Have backup patches
Wytchwood doesn’t feature a traditional fight like you might see in other adventure titles, but that doesn’t mean you can’t take any harm. The world of Wytchwood is teeming with all sorts of ferocious creatures, creepy crawlies, and monsters trying to harm you.
Three health hearts will appear in the lower right corner of the screen. If you find yourself taking damage, simply wrap a healing envelope and restore your health to full strength. Also, the witch can create traps, curses, and curses so that you don’t get completely abandoned.
