As 2021 comes to an end, we’ve seen a lot of AAA and indie releases over the past 12 months, and while some solid titles have been released this year there have also been some disappointments, either due to development or technical issues, or these games were straight up disappointing.
Metacritic has listed the top 10 worst games released between January 1, 2021 and December 31, 2021 based on their average metascores, and according to Metacritic, games with fewer than 7 “professional” critical ratings were excluded from the list.
Here are the 10 worst games of 2021 (ranked low to high):
- eFootball 2022 (PC)
- Balan Wonderworld (switch)
- Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earth Blood (PS4)
- Taxi Chaos (PS4)
- Bird and Cage (PC)
- Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition (Switch)
- I saw black clouds (PS4)
- Arkham Horror: Mother’s Hug (PC)
- Demon skin (pc)
- Necromunda: Loan Rifle (PS4)
It’s interesting to note that Yuji Naka’s Balan Wonderworld is officially the worst game on Switch to be released this year and has had low scores on every platform, while Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition is for its inconsistent performance on all platforms was criticized. the Nintendo Switch in particular and was riddled with numerous but hilarious bugs.
While Battlefield 2042 isn’t listed here, it deserves a Honorable Mention here as it was poorly received by critics and fans of the series (both veterans and newbies alike). It currently has 39% positive reviews on Steam and is the 16th worst game on the platform while it has an average Metascore of 64 on the PC and both next-gen consoles.
