Steam’s Stats has been completely overhauled, having previously focused on the top games by player count from moment to moment, it has changed the way it displays its stats. Now called Steam Charts, the company will still show off the most popular games on the platform but will now also show the top 100 highest earning and top 100 most played games on the service at any given time.
While there have been non-official databases providing similar information, Steamcharts and SteamDB to name but two, they were not affiliated with Valve in any way. We now have an official variant providing the most accurate player count figures and more interestingly, the revenue list. Although the exact dollar amounts are not shown, this industry has generally been quite secretive when it comes to data like this, and the chart still gives you a good understanding of which games are performing best.
Over the past weekend, it was unsurprising to see the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 beta topping the charts of both top sellers and most played, with much anticipation over the full game releasing at the end of October. Cyberpunk 2077 was also in the top 5 for revenue and top 10 for the player count after seeing a resurgence due to the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners series on Netflix.
When it comes to the top seller’s chart, we are able to see how many weeks the game has been in the top 100. Topping this list is of course Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, with a whopping 528 weeks or just over 10 years in the top 100 lists! Interestingly Destiny 2 has also remained in the top 100 since its release back in 2017 and in August it was 2nd in the top seller chart behind only Steam Deck as pre-orders for Destiny 2: Lightfall began.
