The Rise of s1mple – How the King of CS: GO finally claimed his crown

The best player in CS: GO history finally has a big title next to his name.

After eight years of Counter-Strike, 10 major appearances, two runner-ups and an Intel Grand Slam, Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev has fulfilled his lifelong dream of winning a major.

But it wasn’t easy. Whether it was the unstoppable Astralis dynasty, the COVID-19 pandemic broke the LAN or wasn’t surrounded by the best team, there was always something keeping s1mple from getting across the line when it really mattered.

But in 2021, s1mple has dispelled all doubts. In Stockholm, Sweden, he cemented himself as perhaps the greatest FPS player of all time. Now he wants more.

This is the rise of s1mple.

Who is s1mple?

Although an undeniable talent from the start, s1mple didn’t just step on the server and immediately started breaking the game. Instead, it took the young prodigy time to develop into the superstar he is today. The Ukrainian spent his first two years learning from many legends of the CIS region among various organizations. This was especially true for him at HellRaisers at the end of 2014, where s1mple got his first major foretaste. The student eventually became, if not the master, then certainly an heir to the throne, and in early 2016, s1mple left the safety net of his homeland on his way to international fame.

S1mple then joined the North American organization Team Liquid, which was decent on the server, but outside of that, tensions within the TL camp grew. You see, s1mple had a reputation for being a difficult teammate to work with.
