Naughty Dog has completed work on a remake of the game The Last of Us. Interestingly, it was achieved without a crunch.

We have good news for fans of Naughty Dog studio’s games. the team announced on Twitter that the remake of The Last of Us: Part I has gone gold This means that work on the game has been completed and we no longer have to worry about any delays (Cyberpunk 2077 was an extremely rare exception to this rule).

The remake of The Last of Us is being developed with the PlayStation 5 and PC in mind. The console version will be released on September 2 this year. We have to wait longer for the PC edition, and for the time being the developers are not ready to state when we will play it. Therefore, the information about the game reaching gold status most likely applies only to the PS5 version.

Interestingly, all indications are that the project was completed without crunch. This is according to Anthony Vaccaro, one of the leading artists of the game. He stated that this is the first such case in his entire career, stressing that he has also worked at other studios and so far has encountered the same practices everywhere.

This is an important declaration, as Naughty Dog is famous for its brutal crunch. The situation was so bad that the team had trouble keeping many experienced developers in their ranks, who often got fed up after a few years of such torment. Vaccaro says he is proud to be part of the changes that have taken place at the studio in this regard, and stresses that this has not been at the expense of quality.
