The future of X10 CRIT is in question after a strong performance at champions

Although the event is still ongoing, the VALORANT Champions 2021 breakout team was X10 CRIT. The team from Thailand was the biggest surprise in terms of the tournament’s rating. Despite the incredible performance of X10 CRIT making it to the quarterfinals, their future is already in doubt as players consider leaving the team.

Patiphan “Patiphan” is Chaiwong expected to return to the Overwatch League in 2022, leaving X10 CRIT without their star player behind.

“That was this year and also my last official match ggs 1-2 @GambitEsports,” tweeted Patiphan after her quarter-final game with Gambit. “Good luck and continue [wave emoji]. “

In the press conference after the defeat by Gambit Esports and the subsequent elimination, Thanamethk “Crws” Mahatthananuyut addressed the next steps for the team. He said he was considering retiring.

“To be honest, I’m not so sure about that,” said Crws of the team’s future plans. “We don’t know what we’re going to do in the next few months. We were only here to play our hearts out. We’ll think about everything else later. “

During the Champions group stage, X10 was immediately thrown into the bottom group of Group A after a 2-0 loss to Envy. Two surprising wins against Vivo Keyd and Envy, the latter a rematch of their previous fight, resulted in the Thai team moving into the playoffs with the second seed.

Their match against Gambit was a back and forth. Fracture went 13-7 for Gambit and Ascent went 13-7 for X10 CRIT. The final card was Breeze, which ended with another 13-7, this time for Gambit. Although the result was in favor of the team from the Commonwealth of Independent States, X10 CRIT gave the winners of Masters 3 Berlin a close match.

“Standing here right now it feels like we could have done better,” said Crws. “We could even have reached the semi-finals or the final.”

Crws thinks the scales in favor of Gambit came out because they played so much against the CIS team. He said X10 revealed many of its Fracture strategies, which resulted in Gambit kicking them in Card 1.

“That’s the only reason we lost today,” said Crws. “Because we’ve pushed them too hard and they know too much about us compared to any other team we’ve played against.”

While falling short, X10 CRIT – along with Team Secret – has proven that Southeast Asia can be competitive as a region with large regions like North America and Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

“I hope that we can get to the quarter-finals [SEA] Bigger scene, ”said Crws. “I just hope we are a path for them to follow. That we can, and they can too. “
