The best-selling console in the US in April was Nintendo Switch, and among video games, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.
NPD analyst group published a report with the results of the US game market for April this year. Revenues were $4.3 billion, down 8% from the fourth month of 2021.
Console hardware results – Nintendo Switch overtakes PS4
Nintendo Switch just became the fourth best-selling console in the history of the US market. In five years, it managed to beat PlayStation 4’s eight-plus year performance. Only the PlayStation 2, Xbox 360 and Wii have sold better than the Switch – and it is highly likely that over time it will threaten their position as well.
Nintendo’s latest console was also the biggest best-seller of April in the US in terms of number of units purchased. In second place (and first, counting sales revenue) was the Xbox Series X/S.
Recall that recently we wrote about Sony’s problems with obtaining enough components for PlayStation 5. Because of this only 2 million units of PS5 were sold in the first quarter of this year, which is 1.3 million less than in the same period of 2021.

The success of LEGO Star Wars: Skywalker Saga
The best-selling game of April in the US was LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. In terms of first month revenue, it was the best debut ever for a LEGO game.
In the second place was Elden Ring, which is also the best-selling game of the year. what’s more FromSoftware’s action RPG has already overtaken Call of Duty: Vanguard and became the biggest bestseller of the last twelve months..
