Developed by a single person for over a year, this mod is an impressive replica of Doom in Minecraft from 2016.
Minecraft on PC saw a fair share of mods in its day, but recently the blocky mega-hit was turned into something surprisingly true to another popular game. Doomed: Demons of the Nether is a free mod now available for download that recreates the levels, look, and feel of iD Software’s 2016 reboot of Doom.
The mod is an exact replica of the shooter and obviously a lot of work has gone into it, right down to certain weapons like the legendary Doom shotgun. Minecraft players on PC who might want the game (2016) Doom-ify now have the chance and all for free to boot.
The mod was created by a single developer named Sibogy and it took over a year to develop (thanks, Kotaku). Doomed: Demons of the Nether is available through Sibogy’s Website and once downloaded and installed, Minecraft players will find multiple levels similar to the 2016 Doom reboot. The mod is only single player and requires Minecraft version 1.16.3.
The mod includes Doom favorites like gore nests, chainsaws, trip to hell, and the vibrant Mars environment that the 2016 reboot is known for. The demon enemies will of course look blockier than usual.
Sibogy has documented the progress of his unique project on YouTube, and other modders or just the curious can find many videos on his channel documenting the many months he spent creating Doomed: Demons of the Nether.
The mod isn’t just a faithful reproduction of Doom, though – although it’s impressively detailed in that regard as the Minecraft cacodemons also eat up the grenades thrown in their mouths like in the real game – as Sibogy made some changes and even added new features. For example, players need to manage ammunition for the weapons and can collect shards of armor for extra protection in Sibogy’s Minecraft Doom mod.
You can check out Sibogy’s work in the Doomed: Demons of the Nether launch trailer in the video below and download the mod here.
