Renowned esports journalist DeKay announces “for the foreseeable future”

Esports journalist Jarek ‘DeKay’ Lewis has decided to retire from the world of esports for the foreseeable future.

DeKay has been working in eSports since 2016 and has been part of some of the largest news agencies in eSports, such as Dexter and DBLTAP and was nominated several times in the category “Esports Journalist of the Year” at the Esports Awards.

In February 2021, DeKay retired as a full-time journalist and switched to other projects. According to him, he lost all interest in reporting in 2020 and he doesn’t enjoy the work at all. Then he joined ULTI agency To work as a professional player agent, to help the players in the best possible way, that was all he wanted to do – help people, which he stated in his statement.

After working as an agent for almost 9 months, DeKay decided to give up and leave the world of esports.

He minced words, explaining how “the esports industry was immature, how the work was not rewarding, the fans were ungrateful, and how everyone tried to sabotage each other’s work”. DeKay was one of the most respected and renowned names in CS: GO alongside Richard Lewis.

He exclaimed like he was almost burned out from all the drama and reporters who first ran to tell stories while sabotaging others and losing all interest in the scene.

DeKay thanked Duncan ‘Thorin’ Shields and Richard Lewis for their support, even in the early days. The two veterans often receive criticism from Twitter and Reddit and even from people in the industry for their work, but DeKay said how the esports industry will miss them when they’re gone and how important they have been to the entire scene, especially CS : GO. This applies to both DeKay and their work in eSports.

Jarek didn’t entirely rule out a return, hinting that he might even return as an investor at some point, but also pointed out that he won’t see this any time soon.

We thank DeKay for his work in the world of CS: GO and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.
