PUBG: Battlegrounds now available for free on Steam

PUBG: Battlegrounds has switched to the free-to-play model. The servers are currently under maintenance and the free game starts tomorrow.


  • PUBG has started the transition to the free-to-play model;
  • The developers are currently doing maintenance on the servers and the game will be back tomorrow;
  • The transition to F2P applies to all hardware platforms;
  • It will be possible to purchase a DLC with additional features and options;
  • Existing game owners will receive the DLC and the item pack for free.

As previously announced, Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds, one of the most popular online shooters, has changed to a free-to-play model with microtransactions. The switch will apply to all hardware platforms on which the game is available, namely PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Google Stadia.

The F2P switch is a big change, so Maintenance work is required on servers that have had to suspend the game for a while. Maintenance ends tomorrow, January 12th.

The game is free, but it will also be possible to use a DLC called. to buy Battlegrounds Plus. With the purchase we permanently activate access to the following advantages:

  1. + 100% EXP bonus for survival skills;
  2. Career ?? Medals tab;
  3. Ranked competition mode;
  4. Individual matchmaking.

Battlegrounds Plus will also provide the following items:

  1. The Captain’s Camouflage Hat;
  2. Captain? S Camo Mask;

Those who bought the game before switching to F2P will receive a special reminder pack, which will include:

  1. Battlegrounds Plus Upgrade / DLC;
  2. A set of skins (battle-hardened legacy corset, battle-hardened legacy jacket, battle-hardened legacy gloves, battle-hardened legacy pants, battle-hardened legacy boots);

The developers promise that after the F2P transition is complete, PUBG: Battlegrounds will receive many improvements and changes. The card code name “Kiki” is given as an example, but its publication has been postponed to mid-2022.

Finally, it should be mentioned that the preparations for the switch to F2P on January 5th with Release of patch 15.2. The update introduced tactical gear to the game in the form of drones and the EMT Gear device that speeds wound healing. In addition, PUBG has been enriched with two tutorials. The first is a basic tutorial that introduces the player to the basic game mechanics and the second is a training battle against the AI. Skills acquired in this way can be further refined by introducing tutorial missions. In addition, the already existing training mode in the game has been significantly expanded and improved.

The patch also improved gameplay balance, minimap and lobby, and the store interface.
