Minecraft gets in the holiday mood with the help of Nvidia. The new Nvidia RTX Winter World has just released a virtual world where Minecraft players can ride roller coaster, petting blocky little animals in a petting zoo, and meet Voxel Santa Claus with the most realistic lighting any game has ever seen.
Built by the artist Ushio Tokura, RTX winter world are actually three worlds in one. The custom map is divided into three snow globes, one as a winter theme park, one as Santa’s Village, and the third as the most picturesque winter landscape you’ve ever seen. All three have a total area of 38 hectares, which is four times larger than the largest real seasonal event in Austria.
And as I said, it’s not just about beautiful landscapes. You can experience roller coasters, ice skating on a frozen lake, a penguin post, Christmas village, and petting zoo tent, along with playable storylines and quests given out by cheerful old Saint Nick. There are also tons of Easter eggs for fans of Christmas movies like Elf, It’s A Wonderful Life, and The Polar Express.
Everything uses Minecraft’s new ray tracing capabilities, which launched a little over a year ago. You’ll need a newer graphics card to take advantage of the artificial lighting built into the latest GPUs from Nvidia and AMD.
Nvidia has also partnered with Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity to raise funds for sick children over the holidays. There’s a full replica of Great Ormond Street Hospital and an in-game QR code that you can use to contribute to the charity’s Home for Christmas campaign that seems to be bringing seriously ill children closer to home for the holidays. You can also donate directly to the charity by following this link.
Minecraft remains one of the most popular games of all time and recently celebrated a major milestone. YouTube produced a video announcing that Minecraft content has been viewed over 1 trillion times on the platform since the game launched, and also featured a ton of Minecraft’s greatest content creators. You can check out the video and some nice stats in our previous coverage here.
