Minecraft has reached another important milestone. No, no further edition or expansion or a version that allows you to play Minecraft on your bidet will be released. Minecraft has now exceeded 1 trillion views on YouTube.
A trillion is a number so big it’s hard to analyze, but it’s usually only used to describe astronomical units of measure (z (that’s around $ 80 trillion). YouTube has some interesting metrics too to make this huge amount of content understandable even from a distance, e.g. how it represents 30,000 years of playback time.
Yes, you would be dead many times before you even saw 1% of the Minecraft content out there. That’s a lot of Minecraft videos.
And it’s not just long plays and speed runs. Minecraft has created so many different sub-genres that it can be almost as difficult to keep track of. YouTube has a handy graphic that breaks things down by category and shows that most of the Minecraft content is under “Animation” or the dubious “Minecraft, But …”
But let’s try anyway. There are RPG videos, parodies, full survival multiplayer videos, speed runs, 100 day games, ASMR long games, Cottage core build videos, leisurely core chill videos, and even minecraft porn. But uh, YouTube doesn’t count these as they aren’t hosted on its platform. If they did, those trillion views would likely be much higher.
YouTube released a video showcasing the biggest names in Minecraft including Sky Does Everything, Stampylonghead, DanTDM, Mikecrack, Aphmau, Prestonplayz, Invictor and many, many more. Each of these names alone has billions of views, proving that Minecraft is an extremely good game for content creators.
It took Minecraft eight years to hit 500 billion views, but only two years to crack 1 trillion. At this rate, Minecraft will hit 2 trillion next year and it’s showing absolutely no signs of slowing down.
