Kotaku sources report that Hangar 13 is working on a new installation of Mafia, which is to be powered by the Unreal Engine 5 technology and be a prequel to the original trilogy.

citing its sources, kotaku Reports that studio Hangar 13 is working on a new installation of the Mafia series. It is to be powered by Unreal Engine 5 and be a prequel to the original trilogy. This could mean setting the action in the early interwar period, such as the 1920s (a more recent era seems less likely).

Key people leaving

At the same time Haden Blackman, the head of the studio, informed that he was leaving the team after seven years and he is accompanied by Matthew Urban, the COO of Hangar 13.

Blackman wants to be replaced by Nick Baynesthe latter having 30 years of experience in the gaming industry and having led the Brighton (UK) branch of the company since 2018.

What has Hangar 13 been up to in recent years?

In January last year we reported that Hangar 13 may be working on an open-world game that is a mix of science fiction and fantasy.

A few months later we wrote about the cancellation of the studio’s unannounced game – codenamed volt – which was supposed to be a co-op title based on the live-service model. Allegedly, 200 people have been working on it, and the project consumed 53 million dollars.

Illusion engine

It is worth mentioning at the end that the latest installation of the gangster series – Mafia: Definitive Edition – was powered by the Illusion Engine.
