LoL players who have qualified for NLC Division 2 are retiring and citing the removal of the high-elo duo queue as one of the reasons

Anders ‘Fittle’ Wind, a support player for the Danish League of Legends (LoL), has announced his retirement.

Fittle was most recently at Fløng Esports Elite, a Danish organization that competed in the Northern League of Legends Championship (NLC) calibration / qualification tournament and made it to Division 2 in spring 2022.

The NLC is the LoL European Regional League (ERL) for Great Britain, Ireland and Scandinavia.

Fittle announced his resignation in a Twitlonger post today:

Fittle said, “To cut a long story short, I’m going to join the military on April 4th, which will clash with the playoffs for the teams I received an offer from.

“Plus, I just don’t enjoy the game anymore when I’m playing alone. Therefore, after removing duoQ, I fell into a depression as I had very little contact with other people during the entire time I spent learning and playing LoL.

“I still enjoy playing as a team a lot so I may come back to that later.”

Fittle also added that it made no financial sense to keep playing “as you are expected to do a full-time job for half the hours.”

The player’s comments come after Riot Games removed the duo queue from the high-Elo game (Master level and above) last year.

Earlier this year Dot Sports reports that several professional players like Carzzy, Vander and Santorin wanted the duo queue to be back on a high rating.

Fittle received many parting comments and expressions of appreciation from people on the scene, including Danish caster Guldborg, who said he was missing:

The news comes after NLC announced the confirmed teams for Divisions 1 and 2:

The NLC and other accredited ERLs start January 10, 2022.
