Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is a good time no matter which of its three routes you choose to explore, be it the Blue Lions’ Azure Gleam, the Black Eagles’ Black Blaze, or the Golden Deer’s Golden Wildfire. The stories are fun, the combat’s a hoot, the customization’s impressive, and best of all, there’s a wide assortment of playable characters to go smashing in your foes by the hundreds.
But you can up that number nearly twofold over the course of each campaign if you play your cards right during pivotal battles. Here, we’ll help you to do just that, specifically for the charismatic Claude and the saga of his Golden Deer.

Characters You Must Recruit Yourself
Chapter 4: Linhardt
Your first optional recruit is the ever-reluctant Linhardt. For 10 strategy points, you can convince him that fighting is the lesser approach. As it happens, Caspar, who remains your enemy, will be quite relieved nonetheless. He knows this is for the best for his friend.
Chapter 5: Balthus
It won’t take much to get the mercurial Balthus to see eye-to-eye, but you will need 10 strategy points. This is also when Holst joins, but automatically.
Chapter 6: Bernadetta
Bernadetta really has no business being out here directly under Ferdinand’s command, so it’s good we can save her life by recruiting her for 10 strategy points.
Chapter 7: Petra
Though she puts up more of a fight, Petra is nonetheless a mere 10-point commitment. Just trade blows until she decides to tag along.
Chapter 9: Constance and Hapi
Now, things are a bit steeper. Constance and Hapi each require 20 strategy points, as well as a show of force.
Chapter 10: Yuri
20 points for Yuri, but this is also where you should attempt to bring Byleth and Jeralt onto your side.
The stubborn Ashe demands a full 30 points before he’ll surrender.
Chapter 13: Dorothea
Last but not least, Dorothea not only costs 30 points but she must also be escorted to her destination whilst inflicted with poison. Worth it though.
There are three more characters you can recruit in Azure Gleam, but their identities are somewhat spoilerific.
