And when you fight bosses like the wither or the enderdragon, You can never be over-prepared and it is best to play it safe. In this article, we’ll cover everything you can think of about the Grindstone in Minecraft, how to craft and why it’s such a useful mechanic.

How to make a grindstone

Craft table grindstone

There are only two ways to get your hands on a whetstone. The first way is to make it. It’s actually pretty easy to make, it doesn’t require any rare materials, so it shouldn’t be too much effort to create.

The materials needed are two sticks, a stone slab and two boards. Then place the two sticks in the top row on the handicraft table, with the stone slab in between, and then put a board in the middle row on the right and left, with a space between the two. As shown in the picture above.

Alternatively, it is also possible to steal a grindstone from a village. You can find villages in your Minecraft world and chances are they have an armourer. The armorer needs a grindstone to work, so all you have to do is find his workstation and use a pickaxe to dismantle the grindstone – Be careful, if you don’t use a pickaxe to dismantle it, it won’t fall, it will simply break.

How to use a grindstone

The whetstone has two purposes: It is used to Repair and remove enchantments from armor and tools.

When you put an enchanted item on the grindstone, it will remove the enchantment from this article. And if you put two objects on the grindstone, it will combine them and create a new element with the same shelf life as the sum of the shelf life of the two original items. However, in this scenario, it doesn’t matter whether the tools are enchanted or not, the enchantment will always be removed from them.

When the enchantment is removed from an item on the grindstone, some of the original experience points used to enchant the item will be dropped. So it’s always worth taking advantage of that extra XP, even if you’ve just found some enchanted items that you don’t want to use in the future. There are several ways to gain experience and level up, this is just one of them.

Unfortunately, the grindstone cannot remove cursed items or custom item names.

If you are trying to start your own village, the grindstone is the armorer’s construction site block. You can place one in your village and an unemployed villager becomes an armorer. Quite a useful profession which, once it reaches the expert or master level, swaps diamond axes and diamond swords for emeralds.
