How To Do Return Requests In Fortnite

Return requests in Fortnite have been revamped! Previously, if you accidentally made a purchase, or in the case you bought something that you later regretted getting, you had 30 days to make a return request and get your V-Bucks back. While reasonable, the problem was that you could only do this a total of three times per account, no matter how far apart you made the requests.

These requests are no longer called Lifetime Return Requests — instead, they’ve been renamed simply Return Requests. Thank you, you’re no longer limited to just three requests. However, the Return Requests do need to stay balanced, so that people don’t take advantage. Thankfully, Epic has found a way around this, while still keeping everyone happy.

Updated October 3, 2022, by Ashely Claudino: With Update v21.51, the returns system has been changed once again. It works even better now against accidental purchases, with Epic Games finding a way to make it so that players don’t have to waste any Return Requests at all when an accidental purchase is made. We’ve updated this guide so that it contains the latest information.

The Return Request System

Epic gives every player one Return Request, with a new Request granted per year. According to Epic Games, this means that “if you use one, it will refresh 365 days following the most recent Return Request that was refreshed (up to a maximum of three Return Requests)“.

To find the Return Request menu in Fortnite, select Settings and then open the Account and Privacy tab. In the Account options, the third one will say Return or Cancel Purchase. Select that, and you’ll be able to check right away how many requests you still have available.

If you want to make a request, press the Submit a Request option. This only works for items you’ve purchased, such as skins and emotes — you can’t refund a Battle Pass, Levels, or Loot Llamas.

Once you’ve done this, you can select any cosmetic item you’ve bought in the last 30 daysselect the reason — either Accidental Purchase, Unauthorized Purchase, or Item Not As Expected — then confirm and submit your decision.

Purchase Cancellation

Epic Games made a couple of changes to the Purchase system in an update. Now, when you want to purchase a cosmetic item, you have to press and hold the button to actually get it.

On top of that if you’ve made a purchase using V-bucks that you regret, or you bought an item using V-bucks by accident, you can cancel it by selecting it in the Item Shop or visiting the Return or Cancel Purchase page.

Canceling a purchase won’t waste your limited refund request. However, this option is only available for 24 hours after you’ve made a purchase if you’ve just kept it in your locker, or until you’ve used the skin in-game — whichever of these happens first.

The Cancel Purchase feature does not work on cosmetic bundles.

To help be more clear, Epic will show you a warning when you queue for a game during this 24-hour window after purchase, if you’ve equipped the item.
