G2 finalizes VALORANT list for VCT 2022

G2 Esports returns to the VALORANT Champions Tour for 2022 and brings a new revamped EU squad for the second year of the official competition. The organization announced today that it has signed the former Giants Gaming trio consisting of Aaro “Hoody” Peltokangas, Johan “Meddo” Renbjörk Lundborg and trainer Daniil “pipsoN” Meshcheryakov.

Both players bring something VCT and extensive CS: GO Experience with the rest of the G2 squad, which consists of Óscar “mixwell” Cañellas Colocho, Žygimantas “nukkye” Chmieliauskas and Auni “AvovA” Chahade. With the newcomers of the Giants, G2 separates from trainer Neil “neilzinho” Finlay and puts young Wassim “keloqz” Cista on the bench so that he can pursue other options.

In early December, G2 parted with the mid-season takeover Koldamenta, which they had taken over from Acend in July. In return, Acend brought on G2’s Aleksander “zeek” Zygmunt, who was recently benched before eventually winning VCT Champions at the end of the year.

At the beginning of 2021, Giants set up a purely Spanish squad, which was soon taken over by the 19esports organization. For VCT, Giants played with an EU line-up that was constantly changed by cadre movements. The only two players who stayed with Giants from the beginning to the end of the VCT 2021 campaign were both Hoody and Meddo.

G2 was more successful in its first VCT campaign, especially after the mid-season switch when it was the first team to beat Sentinels on LAN at Masters Berlin and reach the semifinals of that tournament. They were a few points away from becoming champions via earned VCT points, but suffered consecutive losses to Liquid and Guild in the Last Chance Qualifier to end their season in mid-October.

G2 should introduce its new squad in qualifying for the first EMEA Challenger Phase, which is slated to begin in late January or early February.
