Esports is a core area of the game industry, which means The Game Awards dedicate at least a small portion of the program to share some highlights from the entire competition year – even if it’s a very, very small segment.
Here are all of The Game Awards 2021 eSports award winners and some of their accomplishments over the past calendar year.
- Best Esports Player – Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev
- Best sports team – Lost to Win
- Best Esports Trainer – Kim “kkOma” Jeong-gyun
- Best Esports Game – League of Legends
S1mple was named Best Esports Player after an incredible series of events including leading Na’Vi to a win and gaining the MVP at CS: GO PGL Stockholm Major.
Similarly, Na’Vi was named the best esports team ahead of the likes of DWG KIA and 100 Thieves. The organization did a lot in several esports in 2021, but the standout was winning both the PGL Stockholm Major and the BLAST Premier Fall Finals.
The DK trainer Kim “kkOma” Jeong-gyun was honored for the performance of his team throughout the year as the best esports trainer, including a second place at League of Legends World Cup 2021 and beats several other candidates like Airat “Silent” Gaziev from Team Spirits International winner Dota 2 Team.
league was named Best Esports Game for the third year in a row CS: GO, Dota 2, and VALORANT. And Worlds 2021 won the award for best esports event for the fourth year in a row and retained its title of the only series of events to receive a game award.
Additionally, Dream was named Content Creator of the Year, an award that included but was not limited to esports personalities.
