It only took two months to reach the huge number of players.
How many people are buying and playing specific games is often difficult to determine. Be it companies like Nintendo not sharing their digital sales, or games being launched on the Xbox Game Pass as well as in stores, which obviously results in them selling a lot fewer copies. You can rest assured that people are likely to like it when millions of people play your game right from the start.
That was the case with Playground Games and Forza Horizon 5. Five million people played Forza 5 almost instantly thanks to Early Access. That doubled to ten million a week after the day of launch as it was available to anyone with a Game Pass subscription. Another five million players have joined the game two months later.
This impressive goal was confirmed by industry analyst MauroNL over the weekend. “Exactly two months after its release, Forza Horizon 5 passed the 15 million player mark,” tweeted MauroNL and congratulated the developers of Forza 5 Playground Games on the process. The tweet includes a screenshot that serves as evidence of Forza’s performance. The exact player total below is 15,009,018. It also features top 11 players in the world if you’re wondering what kind of accolade it takes to be among the elite.
For comparison after VGChartz, Sea Of Thieves, which was also released on Game Pass, took two years and four months to surpass 15 million players. Since then, 25 million players have been registered. We’ll see how long it takes Forza 5 to achieve this lofty goal. Probably a lot less than three years, considering how quickly it managed to reach 15 million players compared to that.
The Forza 5 launch was bigger than anyone expected, and the confirmation for Xbox that making games available through Game Pass on day one is a good idea. The ten million people who played the game in the first seven days made it the biggest first week in Xbox history.
