Find out all about biospeleology and lush caves in this Minecraft teaser

Find out how to live with the axolotls.

Minecraft Lush Cave

How would you like to become a biospeleologist? That is someone who studies the rich ecology in cave systems. Since the Caves & Cliffs update, caving in Minecraft has gotten a lot more interesting thanks to the addition of Lush Caves.

Lush Caves are characterized by their abundance of flora and fauna – especially for a cave. Moss, grass, and azalea bushes will cover the ground, while grapevines, drops, spore flowers, and glow berries will hang from the roof. This is in stark contrast to the stalactite caves, which mainly have stalagmites and stalactites.

All of this life needs water, and lush caves usually get plenty of it, thanks to underground waterfalls that lead to small lakes teeming with life. Glowing squids, tropical fish, and axolotls of all kinds can be found in these underground lakes, but also more threatening creatures like spiders, zombies, skeletons, creepers, and slimes.

about Mojang

Those who want to dive into caves should keep an eye out for azaleas. The presence of an azalea tree on the surface usually indicates that there is a lush cave just below. Dig (but not too far) and you should find a whole new world with all of the adorable axolotls to hold.

Go to Mojang’s side to get a feel for what you may be missing as well as a quick science lesson on how to become a cave dweller.
