Square Enix has decided to hide the price of the PC version of FF VII Remake on EGS after a wave of protests from gamers swept the web.

IN A NUTSHELL:

  1. Square Enix Has Increased Introductory PC Game Prices;
  2. The players got excited and gave their opinions. In response to the protest, the publisher removed the prize from the game tab of FF VII remake in the Epic Games Store.

Square Enix has decided to impose higher prices on the PC versions of its games, starting with Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade and Forspoken, which cost $ 69.99 for the basic versions (Deluxe Editions are correspondingly more expensive: $ 95). The move didn’t go down well with the gaming community, which decided to act on it.

PC gamers were only half successful. While the price of Pronounced on steam remained unchanged, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade‘s tab on Epic Games Store hides the price, and at this point there is no pre-order option. It’s unclear whether Square Enix will ultimately change the price for both, neither or maybe only FF VII remakethat seems to be getting more community attention.

The whole situation is funny (although it’s a tearful laugh) because in 2019, during the opening of the Epic Games Store, Tim Sweeney announced that PC gamers could buy games cheaper thanks to his shop (among other things due to a lower commission: 12% compared to the market standard 30%). As we can see in retrospect, PR statements are seldom translated into reality.
