Extra Salt Reverse Sweeps MAD Lions
Extra Salt and MAD Lions met in the upper bracket semi-finals. Card one led the two squads to Nuke, the choice of Extra Salt. After a tough first half, the MAD Lions secured a sovereign 9: 6 lead. The second half of Nuke was fierce. Extra Salt’s Ricky “floppy” Kemery and Justin “FaNg” Coakley tried to lead their team to victory but failed 13-16.
After a challenging first map, the squads competed against the MAD Lions’ choice of Ancient. On paper, the MAD Lions’ performance so far at Ancient indicated the team would take the win. However, Extra Salt destroyed their opponents after the first half with a 14-1 lead. The start of the second half brought further disappointment for the MAD Lions when Extra Salt finished their pistol round. The MAD Lions fought their way back and won nine rounds in a row, but while MAD’s efforts were ambitious, they didn’t make it. Extra Salt knocked out Ancient and won 16-10.
The series’s decision card, Inferno, was meant to be a competitive battle. Both Extra Salt and MAD Lions were comfortable in their respective regions on the map and showed confident results. But the firepower duo, made up of FaNg and Floppy, went into the server and was ready to cause serious damage. The couple finished with a total of 45 kills. FaNg top crushed the server with 25 kills, nine kills more than the highest at MAD Lions. After 26 rounds, Extra Salt secured its place in the ESL Pro League with a 16-10 win.
Now relegated to the semi-finals of the lower bracket, MAD Lions will compete against Sprout in a best-of-three on Saturday November 27th.
