Everything you need to know about BLAST Premier 2022

the BLAST Premier Tournament series returns for third year. The 2022 BLAST circuit will feature seven different events, including three in an arena with a live audience. Tier 1 Counter-Strike will be booked by BLAST events and it all leads up to the BLAST Premier: World Final at the end of the year.

Aside from events hosted by the ESL and the Valve-sponsored Majors, the BLAST Circuit is the premier forum for competitive Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. A highly selective group event and a more open showdown will see teams advance to the Spring Finals and Fall Finals, respectively. The top teams throughout 2022 will then compete at the World Finals.

“With our expanded qualifier series and split regional Spring and Fall Showdowns, we are able to offer more teams than ever the opportunity to compete in BLAST Premier events and compete in one of our three arena events – the BLAST Premier Fall and Spring Finals and World Finals,” said Andrew Haworth, Commissioner for BLAST Premier, in a press release. “We also listened to the teams’ planning and limited their gameplay to just one best-of-three per day.”

BLAST 2022 event format

Most of the BLAST format is the same as 2021 with just a few changes. The BLAST Showdowns are now split into two regions: Europe/North America and Rest of the World. They are played online, as are the Spring Groups. The BLAST Premier qualifier series will also return in 2022. Teams from around the world can compete for a spot at the Showdown in regional events. In contrast, the spring and fall groups consist only of BLAST partner teams.

The groups themselves have some minor changes. At the event, teams will be split into three groups of four, in which teams will play through a double-elimination best-of-one bracket. The results of the group determine the seeding for the lower bracket best-of-three gauntlet, where the top six teams advance to the spring or fall finals.”

The 2022 schedule

Spring Groups: Jan 28-Jan 2 6 (online)
Spring Showdown: April 20-24 April (online)
Spring Finals: April 14-19 June (Arena)
Autumn groups: 19.-28. Aug (studio)

The venues for the three arena tournaments will be determined at a later date.

There is a total of $2,475 in prize money up for grabs over the course of the seven events. Teams also compete for points on the Race to the World Final Leaderboard. At least two teams will qualify for the World Finals based on points. The other six places are the winners of: Spring and Fall Final, ESL Pro League Season 15 and 16, IEM Cologne and the Major.
