Ahead of the 2022 LPL season, EDG announced their skin picks for Worlds 2021. The EDG Worlds skins are as follows:
- Flanders – graves
- Jiejie – Viego
- Boy Scout – Zoe
- Viper – Aphelios
- Meiko – Lulu
Why did EDG choose these world skins?
Even though EDG was number 1 in the LPL, they were still underdogs at the 2021 World Cup. In this iconic run to win it all, every champion here was played according to the rules of Riot Games. Teams are only allowed to select champions they have set for their Worlds skin.
Flandre chose Graves because he was openly overwhelmed at the event. With its amazing damage, clear wave, and survivability, Graves Top was pretty unbeatable. Flandre plucked graves eleven times at this event and was by far its most-played champion. In terms of a skin that encompasses the Worlds meta, Graves is a great choice.
Jiejie chose Viego. Despite being his skin, Jiejie only played Viego once during the event. During the LPL he played a lot more Viego. The game he played Viego in, however, was crucial. It was game 4 of the 2021 World Cup finals. It was the choice that forced Silver Scrapes and allowed him to dominate Canyon. All in all, a solid choice.
Scout went with Zoe for very similar reasons as Jiejie. Although he didn’t play Zoe until the world finals, Scout broke out and dominated the former world champions. Not only did he dominate her with Zoe, he also dominated her during Games 4 and 5. Another great pick to show how EDG won worlds.
Viper chose Aphelios with 200 years of game design experience. Viper played a ton of aphelios year-round, but played it three times with the Worlds. The last time was Game 5 against Damwon Kia in the final. Do you notice a trend here? Not only is Aphelios a great choice due to its lack of skins, but it’s also a champion that Viper has had a lot of success with in the past and recently.
Finally we have Meiko, who went with Lulu. Since winning the World Cup, Meiko has stated that it would be Lulu or Yuumi. We finally have the answer and it makes a lot of sense. Meiko chose Lulu four times in the Worlds, most notably in Game 4 of the Worlds Finals. This will be Lulu’s first Worlds skin and is an all-time favorite of Meiko.
