When Team Spirit raised the Aegis of Champions in October, it was the first team from Eastern Europe to do so since Natus Vincere at the original International in 2011.
Now Spirit is trying to defend its title while Virtus.pro, Na’Vi and several other teams have retooled and are ready to try their own attempt to achieve the goal Dota 2 largest stage in 2022 Dota Pro Circuit.
Prize pool and format
The DPC Winter Tour 2022 is now underway, with the first part of the competition running until January 23 for 16 teams from the CIS.
During this time, the upper division teams will battle for a place in the Winter Major, while the lower division teams will attempt to advance or fend off relegation for the next game in DPC 2022. At the end of the tour, the two lowest teams in the upper league are sent to the lower league, the first two teams in the lower league are promoted to the upper league and the lowest teams in the lower league are relegated and replaced by two teams from an open qualifying game.
Additionally, each league will have a total prize pool of $ 280,000 per tour, although the DPC points awarded to teams in the top league and majors will be scaled this year according to the event schedule.
On the winter tour, the Regionalliga awards 300 DPC points for first place, on the third tour 500 points for the same placement. This scaling also applies to majors, where EEU has three places in the upper league to award on each tour.
Teams to watch out for
EEU is a bit of a strange region as many of the teams are either untested or trying out new looks that will take some time to read.
Spirit is obviously the early favorite as it has kept his entire TI winners list and is preparing to roll things back for another year. This leaves the slightly changed VP line-up and Na’Vi’s experienced new core as the next two on the list of teams to consider.
Luckily there is talent deep in the region and AS Monaco Gambit, Team Unique, Team Empire and HellRaisers all have interesting squads with a mix of talented young players and veterans who could surprise a lot of fans in their first few weeks.
Also keep an eye on the Winstrike Team, HYDRA and the CIS Rejects in the lower league. These squads are full of potential and will likely have an intense battle to see who will make it to the top division on the next tour.
At the beginning of the new season you will find all tables, scores and results for the Regionalliga Eastern Europe 2022 DPC Winter Tour, which runs from November 30th to January 22nd. You can see the full schedule here.
