DWG KIA starts LCK Spring Split in 2022 with victory over KT Rolster

Former world champion DAMWON KIA started the League of Legends Season with a statement this morning through the 2-0 win against KT Rolster in the LCK Spring Split 2022.

DWG KIA was the subject of great curiosity after finishing second at the 2021 World Cup and making several changes to the squad in the off-season. But in their first series of the LCK Spring Split 2022, they showed that they can be reckoned with again.

The players from DWG KIA showed a clean implementation of their strategies and successfully set the pace, even if it was different in the two games. While the first game was slow and DK focused solely on late game goals and teamfights, they sped things up in the second with relentless ganks down lane and skirmishes on the map to fight your way to victory.

In the first game, DK Mid-Laner ShowMaker used his Ultimate on Orianna for the first time after 38 minutes. But this proved to be the key to winning the team fight and gaining a massive advantage over KT, earning DK for both the Drake and the Baron before committing to one final foray into the Nexus.

Though DK has several star players like ShowMaker and Jungler Canyon, promising bot laner Deokdam, who joined the roster in the off-season, stole the show in the second game on Aphelios. The team built his makeup around him, giving him space to decimate their opponents in mid-game fights, a role he did well.

KT also showed highlights in this series, although the second game was mostly one-sided in favor of DK. Top laner Rascal in particular showed great mechanical skills in the first game on Akali by earning two solo kills over DK top laner Hoya and securing a baron steal.

Many fights were balanced between the two teams and could have gone either way, but DK ultimately won the advantage due to the clean coordination and anticipation of KT’s actions.

In this series, Vex made her debut in the LCK when KT Mid-Laner Aria selected her, despite having played in the LPL and ERL leagues several times. Aria scored a 4/3/3 result for the champion in the loss of KT.

KT (0-1) will have the chance to prove themselves against Kwangdong Freecs in their next series on Saturday January 15th at 4am CT. DK (1-0) will play CT against Gen. G on Sunday, January 16 at 4 a.m.
