dev1ce misses IEM winter semifinals with illness

Nicolai “dev1ce” Reedtz, the star AWPer for the Ninjas in Pajamas, will miss the team’s IEM winter semifinal game against G2 Esports because he is going home with an illness, according to an announcement by the Twitter of the team on Friday. A polymerase chain reaction, or PCR, test showed the device was negative for COVID-19, but he was still being advised by a doctor to “rest and recover.”

Dev1ce is replaced by Love “phzy” Smidebrant, the AWPer for the Young Ninjas, the NiP academy team. The Young Ninjas finished third in Season 2 of the WePlay Academy League. More recent results have been less encouraging, with early exits from the 2021 Elisa Invitational Fall and the Malta Vibes Knockout Series: # 4. Phzy boasts 1.10 Rating on HLTV for the past six months.

The substitution has already taken place approved by the IEM winter tournament management.

The pajama ninjas bounced back from a disappointing BLAST fall finale with a strong performance so far at the IEM Winter. They beat Astralis before Vitality banished ninjas in pajamas to the lower class. With a series of victories against OG, Team Liquid and GODSENT they reached the semifinals.

From Friday, dev1ce is the third highest rated player on IEM Winter with a rating of 1.27 on 11 cards, only behind Dzhami “Jame” Ali from and G2 star Nikola “NiKo” Kovač. Without dev1ce, NiP’s chances of beating the PGL major finalists in G2 are significantly lower.

NiP’s semi-final series against G2 takes place on Saturday at 1:15 p.m. ET. It is not yet known whether dev1ce will play again in the grand final on Sunday if NiP manages to advance. IEM Winter is played by a studio in Stockholm where NiP is based.
