Last week we got to see the first bit of gameplay for the new upcoming FPS RoboCop: Rogue City. Arriving in June 2023, RoboCop: Rogue City will see players take on the role of Alex Murphy, a character modeled (and voiced by) after the original RoboCop actor, Peter Weller.
For those of you too young to remember the magic of Robocop, trust me when I say it was an ’80s classic, maybe even the best action movie of its time. And judging from what we’ve seen of the gameplay, RoboCop: Rogue City looks to capture everything that made RoboCop special and build upon it.
The game is based on the original 1987 movie but will only use that setting to tell a brand new story. RoboCop: Rogue City will consist of a mixture between a first-person shooter and exploration with multiple-choice dialogue and is aiming to release simultaneously on PC, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch.
RoboCop has seen a long list of video game adaptations throughout the years, from a run-and-gun game released in 1988 to 2014’s RoboCop shooter; this is a franchise that’s never entirely been forgotten, no matter how many decades have passed.
The released trailer showcased some of the game’s unique take on the first-person shooter genre. Players will find themselves in the future in a crime-infested version of Detroit. It’s up to the player, as RoboCop, to explore the dark alleys, clear out the drug dens and stamp out corruption – a premise very familiar to anyone who watched the original films.
