While you’re sitting there surrounded by bargains you snagged on Black Friday or while waiting for them to arrive in the mail because you were smart enough to order them online, it’s time to watch the greatest video game stories the past seven days to read. A combination of what is to come in the near future, which was released and fixed earlier this month, and the ongoing issues with Activision Blizzard meant it was a mix of good, bad, and very, very ugly. The latest Pokemon games aren’t perfect, Fortnite is about to enter a new era, and Xbox now has some kind of metaverse, so let’s get into that.

Bobby Kotick is still in charge of Activision Blizzard

It’s hard to believe that after the latest details on the allegations against him and others at Activision Blizzard, Bobby Kotick still has a job. The biggest development this week on the saga is that Kotick states that if he can’t solve the problems in the company, he would willingly step down as CEO. Many would argue that the ship sailed a long time ago. Nintendo, along with PlayStation and Xbox, spoke out against the studio, and then a committee was formed to ensure that changes were made at Activision Blizzard. However, this committee consists of members of Activision Blizzard’s board of directors. Make it what you want.

A brilliant diamond and shiny pearl are far from perfect

November turns into a month for imperfect games. Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl isn’t a GTA trilogy, but there is still work to be done on the Gen Four remakes. Contrary to GTA, some of BDSP’s glitches could be said to make the games more fun than unplayable. One allows you to access areas deep in the game before picking up your Starter Pokémon. Another allows you to clone Pokemon so you can create a team of supposedly unique legends. These issues, and any others discovered in the first week of BDSP, are fixed pretty quickly, so try them out now before it’s too late.

You will have heard the words meta and metaverse so many times since Mark Zuckerberg mentioned them that they have probably lost all meaning. However, do not block the keyword yet. Xbox released some kind of metaverse this week and it’s actually pretty cool. The new feature allows you to wander through an Xbox virtual museum to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the very first Xbox console. The best part is the corner that houses your personal accomplishments. Information about what games you played most often during your Xbox trip, including the first game you played on each of the four Xbox consoles.

Fortnite Chapter 2 is drawing to a close

If you’ve been playing Fortnite for a while, you may remember a time over two years ago when the entire game disappeared into a black hole and couldn’t be played for a few days. This was by design. When the island reappeared it was completely different and Epic declared the beginning of Chapter 2. Eight seasons later, and that will happen again soon. The Fortnite Chapter 2 finale will take place on December 4th, presumably via a cinematic event where players battle The Cube Queen. You will also get 225,000 XP for logging in in between so get started soon for your prize.

Amazon wants to do a mass effects TV show

Mass Effect had a very big year in 2021. BioWare released the Legendary Edition earlier this year, a remastered collection of the first three Mass Effect games. The bad news is that it will likely be a long time to see something new, presumably Mass Effect 5. However, Amazon announced that there may be another project to look forward to. While discussing the success of Wheel Of Time, it was revealed that the company is about to close a deal that will turn Mass Effect into a TV show. Amazon is already working on a Fallout adaptation and could potentially add more big titles to the list once Mass Effect is nailed down.

Keanu Reeves doesn’t want to be in Mortal Kombat

Keanu Reeves as Neo in The Matrix Reloaded

Mortal Kombat has a popular list of fighters that has grown over the decades. The series has also welcomed guest fighters like DC’s Joker and Arnie’s Terminator. However, if you were hoping that The Matrix’s John Wick or Neo could be a part of Mortal Kombat 12, you will likely be disappointed when this game launches. Keanu Reeves, who plays these two iconic characters on the big screen, has said he has no desire to ever see either of them in the fighting games. Reeves said Neo and Wick would do their own thing away from Mortal Kombat. Warner Bros. owns The Matrix, John Wick and Mortal Kombat, so there’s a very real chance Reeves will have to see them team up down the line – not to mention possible appearances of the characters in MultiVersus.
