Biggest Video Game News of the Week (December 18th)

You’d think a week ending on Christmas Eve wouldn’t be jam-packed with video game news, and well, you’re a little right. Aside from everyone getting ready for Christmas Day and all the big product launches that are already coming out, the main focus has been on Spider-Man: No Way Home and The Matrix: Resurrections. However, there was still some important news as we move into the final week of the year. Modders ride in to save Final Fantasy 7 Remake, chases in Cyberpunk 2077 – here are the biggest stories of the past seven days.

Fix for Final Fantasy 7 Remake and a free upgrade

FF7 Remake got its long-awaited PC port earlier this month. After trying it, many who have waited for it likely wish it had been a little longer in the works. Porting is far from polished, and this is where modders come in. The modding community has already fixed the problems of FF7 Remake, but also built in a mod that Cloud puts in its Honeybee Inn dress for the entire game. If you downloaded the game for free on PS Plus, you can now upgrade to the PS5 version for free.

THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

A new Ghostbusters game is coming

Ghost hunters

Ghostbusters has seen many big screen reboots in recent years, but not so much in the video game world. While the series is most associated with movies, Ghostbusters also has a rich gaming history – one that has been inactive for a decade at this point. That is about to change, according to Ghostbusters actor Ernie Hudson. Hudson claims that a brand new Ghostbusters game is currently in the works. He’s just been invited to voice-overs for it, however, so it may take a while for the game to be officially confirmed.

The Uncharted film is getting a new trailer

It’s amazing what a difference a trailer can make. The first trailer for the Uncharted film was recorded with a collective “meh” when it was released earlier this year. Fast forward to this week and the second seems to get people excited about the movie’s arrival in 2022. That will happen when you show people fighting on pirate ships, hanging from helicopters, and they give them a look at Mark Wahlberg with a cute mustache. The jury will of course be out until Uncharted fans see the whole thing, but count this week as a win for everyone involved.

Cyberpunk, Sonic, and Elden Ring should all have chases

Cyberpunk has been on the market for over a year now and of course in far better shape than last Christmas. Still not entirely satisfied, players are wondering why Night City is completely chase free. Cyberpunk’s quest director defended the game’s lack of high-speed activity by comparing it to Sonic and Elden Ring. Well, Sonic doesn’t have any cars outside of Team Sonic Racing, which technically has car chases. As for Elden Ring, while we can assume there won’t be any cars, we can’t really be sure until it hits the market next year. If you can turn The Lands Between around in a Bugatti, Cyberpunk’s quest director is going to look pretty silly.

Twelve minutes without a game

Most retired and most completed

It’s almost the end of the year, which means everyone has shared their Spotify wrappeds and most-played Nintendo games of 2021. Additionally, HowLongToBeat shared a few other stats about your gaming habits for the year. Resident Evil Village was the best completed game of 2021. No wonder, because it’s not only great, but also pretty short. As for the most kicked-back game, or in other words, neither of us could play the game long enough to get to the end, this undesirable award goes to 12 minutes. Not so great for a game that takes about four hours from start to finish.

Nintendo asks you to think about the servers

Nintendo Switch Bowser Jr plays on console with Bowser

2021 may have been the first full year for the PS5 and Xbox X | S series, but it was also another dominant year for the Nintendo Switch. By this point next year, the console will almost definitely have exceeded 100 million units shipped, a number that will be heavily built towards this holiday season. In preparation for a wave of new Switch owners, Nintendo issued a warning advising gamers to get set up before Christmas Day. The servers will be busy on December 25th, which could result in a very slow, maybe even unusable switch right out of the box. The only problem is, by the time you first find out about this, it will be too late.
