BIG, Guild, FPX and more qualify for VCT EMEA Challengers 1

The first wave of qualifying teams have made it into the VALORANT Champions Tour Europe, Middle East and Africa Challengers 1 League. Berlin International Gaming, Guild Esports, FunPlus Phoenix and SuperMassive Blaze will join Fnatic, Acend, Team Liquid and Gambit Esports in the new VCT EMEA League.

Guild and BIG qualified through the European Open Qualifiers while SuperMassive battled through the Turkish group. FunPlus Phoenix qualified through the Commonwealth of Independent States open qualifiers despite competing in the EU last season.

Meet the new VCT EMEA Challengers 1 teams

guild and LARGE Both came through the open system, defeating teams invited to the closed qualifier section to create the new EMEA league. Guild made it through the upper bracket, defeating TENSTAR and Team Vitality to qualify. BIG made it through the lower group, defeating TENSTAR and Alliance before winning their qualifying match 3-0 against Vitality, which sent them to the lower group in the second round.

Joining the European squads in their VCT EMEA Challengers 1 qualifier are SuperMassive Blaze and FPX. SuperMassive also came out of the open bracket, decimating their closed qualifier competition. Only one Turkish team could make it to the new league and SBM qualified after losing just one map to Fire Flux Esports in the grand finals.

FPX took a very different path as they started their closed qualifying run with a first round loss to KPI Gaming. They then battled through the lower bracket to face Natus Vincere in the grand finals, winning the series 3-2 to qualify.

The next qualifying round for the three regions starts again on Monday with open qualifiers. Four teams from each region make the next closed qualifiers from the open section, joining the top four squads that did not qualify for VCT EMEA Challengers 1.

The closed qualifiers for the three regions begin on Thursday.
