Patch 4.0 led to a doubling of the number of Battlefield 2042 players on Steam. Even now, however, the results achieved by the game are not impressive.

Last week saw the debut of big patch 4.0 for Battlefield 2042. We thought it was worth checking out to see if it led to the game’s revival.

Patch 4.0 to BF2042 – landscape after the battle

Before the release of the update, the game’s situation was dire, so the patch was seen as a chance to reverse the trend of losing players. Did it succeed in doing so?

  1. The number of players has doubled compared to last week. Yesterday, at the hottest time of the day in BF2042 was played by 4361 people on Steam. In contrast, the activity record for April 16 (the last Saturday before the patch’s release) was 2036 concurrent users.
  2. Doubling the number of players looks good on paper, but actually, Battlefield 2042‘s results after the release of patch 4.0 are not impressive.
  3. The game’s all-time activity record, set shortly after release, stands at 105,000 simultaneous players. So the update did not convince too many people to return to BF2042.
  4. Much greater popularity is still enjoyed by the two previous installations of the series. Yesterday’s activity record of Battlefield V What 19,000 concurrent players other 8,000 for battle field 1.
  5. Thanks to patch 4.0 Battlefield 2042 has overtaken battlefield 4but considering how old the latter game is (it debuted in 2013), that’s hardly an achievement.

Keep in mind, of course, that these results only include the PC edition of the game available on Steam (many PC gamers also play through the Origin platform). Nevertheless, they are a good litmus test of players’ attitude towards the game.

The weak growth of interest in the game after the patch is not a special surprise. Already last week we wrote that patch 4.0 has failed to meet the community’s expectations. Corrections introduced by it are beneficial, but Battlefield 2042 still suffers from a number of annoying bugs and other issues.
