All teams for IEM Katowice announced

The 24 teams that will compete at Intel Extreme Masters Katowice from February 15-27, 2022 were announced. Sixteen of these teams go through a play-in phase, which allows them to advance to the group stage. The play-in teams are as follows:

The eight teams waiting in the group stage are as follows:

  • Born to win
  • Gambit sport
  • G2 sport
  • Team vitality
  • Heroic
  • Virtus.pro
  • FURIA Sport
  • Team Liquid

In addition to Wisła Kraków, who won the Polish national championship, teams were invited to the IEM Katowice based on the ESL Pro Tour track points they had collected. The invitations were split by region, with the exception of the last seven teams, which were simply the second highest rating on the EPT world rankings regardless of their region. Natus Vincere leads the world rankings by a large margin, more than 750 points ahead of Team Vitality in second place.

The tournament begins with a double-elimination bracket play-in phase, which will take place from 15.-16. February runs. Opening games are best-of-one, while subsequent games are best-of-three. The best eight teams will advance to the group stage, which runs from February 17th to 20th. There are two format groups in double elimination format with eight teams each. All games are best-of-three and the top three teams in each group advance to the playoffs. The single elimination playoffs run from February 25th to 27th.

With the long absence of Tier 1 Counter-Strike until January and early February, IEM Katowice will mark a return to professional play for the teams. In addition, many of the teams at the event will have new squads as the organizations continue to change their lineups during the transfer window at the end of the season.

IEM Katowice is an S-Tier Masters event that is just the beginning Intel Grand Slam. The tournament winner will receive $ 400,000 and 1,800 EPT Circuit Points.
