10 ways to make survival mode more challenging

Minecraft is one of the most played video games out there because the sandbox experience gives you complete freedom to do whatever you want, whenever you want. There is no end goal in the game. What you want to achieve is entirely up to you, but after a while you might want to brush up on your experience.

There are many challenges that you can face in Minecraft that will make the game more fun and will completely change the way you play. Here we explore the best Minecraft challenges that can improve the game. Just note that some of these challenges involve downloading popular mods, so you may need to install them Wrought to try them all.

10 hardcore mode

Hardcore mode is exactly the same Minecraft experience you know and love, but with a big twist. If you die in game, you lose everything. You don’t just respawn at your last designated respawn point. Instead, you only have two options after death: Watch World and Erase World, which takes you to the main menu.

Hardcore mode difficulty is set to Hard and cannot be changed, so you cannot play the mode on a lower difficulty. It’s important to know everything about Hardcore mode before jumping into it, as it’s not for the faint of heart.

9 survival island

Survival Island is easy. You start on an island in the middle of nowhere and are not allowed to leave the island at any time. You have to do your best to survive on the island and live off the land. Some of the best seeds in Minecraft start you off on a small survival island.

At least you never have to worry about straying too far from home with this challenge. Otherwise it will be a tough toboggan ride. Hopefully there is a cave on the island so you can still mine and explore underwater caves.

8th SkyBlock Survival

A sky block in Minecraft

SkyBlock is one of the oldest mods in Minecraft and has been around for over ten years. This mod starts you on a small floating island with a tree and a chest containing only the essentials.

Inside the chest you will find: a lava bucket with two ice cubes to craft a cobblestone generator, melon and pumpkin seeds, red and brown mushrooms, a bone, a loaf of bread and a full set of leather armor. Your goal is to build outward to find other skyblock islands and eventually challenge the ender dragon. Once the boss is defeated, you have completed the challenge.

7 OneBlock Survival

A block in Minecraft

A block is a mod that completely changes the way Minecraft is played. In OneBlock you spawn on a floating block in the air. You can mine that one block over and over again, giving you basic materials that slowly improve over time.

As you progress through the stages, the block will slowly upgrade into better blocks, chests, and even some new mobs. You can essentially build your entire world through the materials this block gives you. If you’ve ever been frustrated with your randomly generated world, now you can create one from scratch.

6 Hermit Chunk Challenge

The Hermit Chunk Challenge in Minecraft

The Hermit Chunk Challenge is another interesting take on survival mode. It’s a mod that spawns you on a single 16×16 piece with nothing else. It might not look like it, but this one 16×16 piece has everything you need to survive. In this chunk you will find wood, a small cave, rare ores and lava. You can even go into the nether and to the end.

The goal is to play the game with these limited resources and eventually defeat the Ender Dragon. If you can defeat this boss with the gear that you can craft on this island, you are definitely a Minecraft pro.

5 City Building Challenge

The city building challenge is a popular survival challenge in Minecraft because it requires no mods. You simply start out in a village and slowly need to grow it into a full-fledged city. You have to live in this town throughout the game, sleep there every night and really play roles as villagers.

It will take a long time to establish good relationships with the villagers and build new structures. In fact, there are many things you might not know about villages, so find out exactly how they work before you start.

4 Nomad Challenge

The Nomad Challenge is exactly what it sounds like. You have to keep moving. In this challenge, the use of chests is forbidden, so you’ll need to use your four armor slots, 27 storage slots, nine hotbar slots, and one off-hand slot. You can carry a total of 41 items, so stay organized.

You can rest in a small hut for the night, but the second you wake up you have to destroy it and keep moving. If you are a true nomad, you will never sleep in the same place two nights in a row.

3 Pacifist Challenge

Two players and a wolf on a cliff in Minecraft

The Pacifist Challenge is perhaps one of the most unique challenges in Minecraft. In this challenge you cannot kill mobs at all. It doesn’t matter if they’re passive, neutral, or hostile, you can’t attack them.

In terms of food, you must plant seeds and eat your crops as you cannot kill animals for food. It’s important to also have some torches with you, because you’ll have to make sure you have light at all times because you can’t attack enemy mobs. It’s all peace and love in this challenge.

2 Single biome challenge

The Single Biome Challenge, also known as the Buffet Challenge, is interesting. It makes the entire map a single biome, and you must survive in that biome. To start this challenge, just go to Create New World, then click More World Options… and change the World Type to Single Biome. From there you can customize which biome to generate.

If you really want a challenge, choose a barren biome like the desert or wasteland. There isn’t much going on in these biomes, making them very difficult to live in.

1 100 Day Challenge

The 100 Days Challenge in Minecraft is the ultimate challenge in the game. It’s all about playing the game in hardcore mode and trying to defeat the ender dragon in no more than 100 days in game. This is very difficult as it makes the game a race against time.

If you challenge the Ender Dragon too soon, you’ll lose everything and have to start all over again. It’s best to postpone the fight until day 99 or 100, even if you feel more than prepared by day 80. To help you keep track of the days, you can install one day counter mod. It will make things a lot easier.
